SESLER RESIDENCE

DALLAS, TEXAS | 5,000 SQFT | COMPLETED IN 1986

DALLAS AIA HONOR AWARD 1988

“This is a house of interesting planes and controlled views, a brick and glass residence that celebrates its materials and structure, a sprawling house filled with intimate, self-contained spaces.  The entrance hall, for example, is a low potentially concussive space that carries the eye to a stained glass window positioned like a target on the distant living room wall.  Views from the living and dining room are directed up and down the creek, toward nature and away from nearby structures.”

“Pink-brick projections, or drawers, are pulled out from the white-brick core, giving the house the appearance of minimalist cabinetry.  A red-brick wall completes the exterior color scheme, slicing through the building to divide the property into distinct areas for private rooms, entertainment space, and service needs.  Viewed from the road, this muted palette and the extensive shimmer of glass tend to vaporize the two-story plan into a mirage that often stops passersby in their tracks.”
