EUSTIS HOMES
DALLAS, TEXAS | 2,200 SQFT | COMPLETED IN 2009
With the first of four planned homes recently completed, the Eustis Homes seek to demonstrate that modern, livable homes can maintain a respectful relationship within the original neighborhood, can be built and sourced efficiently and wisely, and can operate inexpensively over the life cycle of the building.
A conservationist and bird watcher, the developer sought to implement a holistic approach to the infill of an existing urban neighborhood. Great care was taken to protect a multitude of mature hardwood trees on the site. This dense canopy in concert with an intelligent site orientation helps to maximize breezes while minimizing heat gain. Durable cement stucco and metal clad windows and doors provide additional protection from the elements.
As a contextual response, the exterior green surfaces reduce the apparent size and visual impact of the homes by blending in with the existing tree foliage. Minimal hardscaping and low-water vegetation help reduce consumption of vital resources. The simple, open interiors of light painted walls and FSC certified wood floors help amplify the abundant natural light.
