1000 FOCH STREET
FORT WORTH, TEXAS | 15,000 SQFT | COMPLETED IN 2010
AIA DALLAS DESIGN AWARD 2011
This project is a reuse of two early 20 century industrial buildings into offices for small entrepreneurial companies. The found condition of the buildings, while visibly rough, proved to be reasonable and structurally sound. Superfluous additions were removed, freeing up site for parking, landscape and a proper front yard to the street and revitalized neighborhood.
New additions to the Quonset hut are simple wood clad boxes set in the space between the two existing buildings. They contain all plumbing and mechanical needs. A small courtyard off of the kitchen/break sports an artificial turf putting green for the sports obsessed occupants.
New materials and aesthetic vocabulary play off of the industrial nature of the existing buildings and, along with the simple native landscape, unify the site as one identifiable statement. The Quonset hut is also designed to double its occupancy with a future stacked office space on a mezzanine level. The wood clad addition closest to the street is designed for vertical expansion with two future levels to accommodate additional rest rooms, an elevator and a small roof terrace.
The windsock is the signage for the lead tenant, Tailwind Investments.
